Abstract

Overview

ISO 5834-5:2019 specifies a microscopy-based test method to assess the morphology of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) moulded forms used in surgical implants. The method is intended for moulded forms described in ISO 5834-2 and is not applicable to UHMWPE powder forms (ISO 5834-1). The procedure evaluates consolidation quality by counting incompletely fused flake particles observed under dark-field microscopy.
